🏆 On Self-Mastery — (+ new from Avthar)
Questions to Make 2021 Your Best Year Ever: Every year since 2014, I've conducted an end of year review and new year planing. The practice has helped me take stock of my life, reflect on the ups and downs of the past year, and re-orient myself toward living a successful, authentic and peaceful life. I've compiled 6 of the best sets of questions I've used in my annual reviews over the years.
They range from reflection questions that top performers like Tim Ferriss, Shane Parrish and James Clear ask themselves, to questions I've composed and asked myself during my journalling practice.
My hope is that you use these to help you review and reflect on 2020 and re-orient your life for happiness, peace and success in 2021!
(I personally did question sets A, C and D this year)
💸 On Investing —
The Little Book of Common Sense Investing: If I could only ever recommend one book on investing, this would be it. It's written by John C Bogle (who's book "Enough" I've previously featured). Bogle was the founder and chief executive of the Vanguard Group and created the first index fund. My uncle gifted me this book when I first started working and I recently gifted a copy to my little sister as a Christmas present.
The book centers around how investing in low-cost index funds for the long term is your best bet to build wealth. Bogle teaches you about what index investing is, compounding returns (and compounding costs!) and red flags to look out for when choosing where to invest your money.
💪 On Health —
5 Minute Morning Mobility Routine: If you're looking to get healthier in 2021, but don't know where to start, try this 5 minute mobility routine. It's super short, doesn't require any equipment and can be done by itself in the morning or evening, or as part of your warmup before working out. I've been doing it for many months and highly recommend it!
🙏 On Happiness —
The Power of Vulnerability: Brene Brown has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy. Her audiobook, of the same name as the talk, is one of the books that’s most impacted my life.
In this talk, which has been seen more than 14 million times, she teaches us about vulnerability — what it is, why it's important and how embracing it can transform the way we live, work and parent.
What I'm up to these days: Revisiting my favorite book (Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman), trying to do unplug from the mental urge to be constantly productive ("I should be doing this"), reflecting on 2020 and orienting myself for 2021 by selecting themes to embody and goals for my professional and personal life. I also recorded a podcast with Shamay Agaron, author of the Friday Brainstorm newsletter, about how we use neuroscience to live better. I'm excited to share it with you soon!
🙏 Thank you again for reading and for your support! I wish you all the best for the new year and hope it bring you peace, happiness and success!
