My new app: An AI coach to 10x my thinking (and yours too)
Introducing MIQ Journal: Ask better questions today. Wake up to better answers tomorrow.
Hey everyone, thanks for opening this email. I know it’s been a while since I last shared an update. How have you been doing?
Today, I’m excited to share a new project that’s close to my heart: MIQ Journal.
It’s a new app that combines two of my greatest passions: self-improvement and AI. It brings together practices and themes I’ve been exploring for years (and have talked about in previous editions of this letter): The power of reflection, how to harness your subconscious mind, how to build better habits, how to get more done by focusing on less. And of course, it’s inspired by one of my heroes Josh Waitzkin, Mr Art of Learning himself.
The rest of this post details:

Until then,

🤦 Let’s face it, we’re all stuck in reactive mode
I built MIQ Journal to scratch my own itch: Late last year, I found myself constantly on the brink of overwhelm —jumping from slack to email, meeting to meeting, and struggling to make time for deeper thinking that truly moved the needle.
After talking to friends in tech and finance, I realized I wasn’t alone. The average professional spends ~80% of their day in reactive mode. So I built a solution to help us take back our focus and make time for reflecting on our most important problems. The key was embracing the MIQ Process.
🎯 The Most Important Question (MIQ) Process, inspired by hero Josh Waitzkin
The MIQ Process is all about identifying and making progress on your Most Important Question (MIQ.
The process works in 3 simple steps:
You end your day by asking "What's the most important question in what I'm doing right now?”. But the trick is you don’t try to answer it straight away.
Instead, you pose the question to your subconscious mind and detach overnight.
Then in the morning, you journal on your MIQ and capture fresh insights —before emails, social media, or other inputs cloud your thinking.
I first learned about the power of the subconscious mind and the MIQ Process from one of my heroes: Josh Waitzkin. Josh is a Chess prodigy, martial arts world champion, and BJJ black belt.
Today, he advises world class performers in business, and the MIQ Process is one of the most potent tools he employs to help these “mental athletes” make progress. Both Josh Waitzkin and the MIQ Process have been featured on podcasts like Huberman Lab and The Tim Ferriss Show (see the resources section below for links).
🧪 What is MIQ Journal and how does it work?
If Steve Jobs described MIQ Journal, he’d say it’s 3 things: (1) a focusing tool, (2) a habit builder and (3) a clear thinking coach, all in one.
MIQ Journal sends you 2 daily emails: one to capture your most important question at night, another to record your insights in the morning before distractions.
And in the background, MIQ Journal surfaces patterns, blind spots, and breakthrough opportunities you might miss thanks to personalized AI insights.
🚀 Unlock breakthrough thinking in your work today
MIQ Journal takes just 10 minutes a day but transforms how you approach your biggest challenges - whether you're building a product, leading a team, or making investment decisions.
I’ve been using the product every day and I’m not just more productive, but feel calmer and more clear too, knowing I’ll have space to thoughtfully explore solutions vs rushing to solve problems.
